Born September 13, 1933, to Gus and Ava (Norton) Cooper in Vendor, Arkansas.
Eldest of four boys, predeceased by his brothers Lewell “Lew” Cooper and George Cooper. He often marveled at the grace of his Mother for raising them all and spoke lovingly of his childhood with cousins and family in Vendor. For many years, he subscribed to the local paper so he could keep up with the news from home.
Boyd was married for nearly 70 years to Delores Cooper. He loved her deeply. He was a devoted husband, who never faltered when she developed dementia. Boyd cared for her at home as long as he could before moving her to memory care, where he visited every day as long as his health allowed him to go.
Boyd is survived by brother James Vernon Cooper (Hazel) of Lee’s Summit, MO, many nieces, nephews, and those who called him “Gramps.” Although he did not have children of his own, he was a devoted grandfather and role model. A life well lived. Friend to many. Loved by all who knew him.
Boyd was proud to serve his country in the US Army and recently took his uniform to a Veterans Day celebration at Novel Place Senior Living.
Boyd’s career was in residential construction. He was President of Boyd K. Cooper Construction. Boyd had many lifelong friends from the homes he built. He was a true gentleman and made many a sale on a handshake. He had quite a collection of antique cars at his “farm” and loved to entertain young and old there with his “kiddie train” and horses, goats, and chickens.
He was very proud of his Arkansas roots and cheered mightily for the Razorbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs. He spoke of his Grandfather’s general store and post office and said his entrepreneurial nature came from him. He worked tirelessly to achieve his dreams and to help others.
Every Saturday morning for over 40 years, Boyd made the morning special by bringing donuts. Even during Covid, he made the “donut run.” After his health prevented him from continuing the tradition, donuts were delivered to him at Novel Place. He never knew a stranger and asked anyone who happened to be close by to join us for a donut. His kind heart and “Paul Newman” blue eyes will be fondly remembered.
For those who would like to make a donation in Boyd’s name, he loved animals and was known to make a rescue from Wayside Waifs.
