Brian succumbed to his battle with a very rare and aggressive Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer which was first diagnosed in September 2017. At that time his prognosis was poor, only expecting to live for a few months. However, through medical treatment, by the grace of God, through many prayers and petitions and Brian’s pure courage and will to live, he survived more than two years after being diagnosed.
Brian was born on November 10, 1959 to Dennis E. Vossman, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2018, and Marilyn D. (Stratton) Vossman, who now resides in Manhattan, Kansas. Brian is also survived by a devoted and loving wife, Rochelle (Struck) Powers-Vossman. Being an oncology nurse and a great patient advocate, Rochelle was at Brian’s side to guide his treatment and comfort him during his illness. Other survivors include three sons, Collin Vossman and daughter-in-law, Jenny, Nathaniel Vossman and Caden Vossman; stepdaughter, Brianna Powers and stepson, Andrew Powers, and first wife and mother of his boys, Dana (Stoll) Vossman; He leaves four siblings, Carolie and husband Kit Meade, Janis and husband Mike Crow, Steve Vossman and Lynn and husband Danny Fleming along with multiple nephews, nieces and cousins.
Brian was born and raised in Beloit, Kansas where he enjoyed playing multiple sports including football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from St. John’s High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College and graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in General Studies and Agriculture. He lived in the Kansas City area after his graduation from K-State.
Brian was a Sales Account Executive at CDK Global from March 2001, achieving the prestigious President’s Club Award 10 times. Despite biweekly treatments, he continued working fulltime until a few months ago when the fatigue became debilitating. Prior to CDK, Brian worked as a Sales Manager at Oil-Dri Corporation of America from 1986 until 2001.
Beyond Brian’s work life, he also coached his boys in sports and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. His other interests included cooking with his wife, gardening, playing bridge, hiking and watching college and professional football, especially with his beloved boys. Many people found Brian to have a warm and inviting spirit and wonderful gift of making people laugh. Through his many pranks and shenanigans, he kept his friends and family entertained. The memories of his delightful personality and his zeal for life will be a source of fond memories for all who knew him.
Being a man who expressed his faith in action, he volunteered many hours over the course of twenty plus years of service at Church of the Resurrection (COR). While at COR, he was an usher, taught Sunday School, and lead confirmation classes. Of all the activities he participated, he most enjoyed teaching & building relationships with middle & high school students. Nearly three years ago, Brian began attending Grace Church and was excited to join in helping build the new campus in North Overland Park. Brian was a Grace Group leader and enjoyed forming connections with the members of his group.
Being a humble man, he initially hesitated creating a CaringBridge site. Not surprisingly, Brian approached his CaringBridge site as the vehicle to share his testimony, inspire hope, and bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. He firmly believed his longevity was in response to all the prayers being sent on his behalf.
