Bridget Olson, 66, of Independence, Missouri, was welcomed home to Heaven on December 13, 2020. Visitation will be 9-10am on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be private. A public graveside memorial service at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge, Kansas City, Missouri will transpire after the private family funeral mass.
Bridget was born in Kansas City, Missouri at St. Mary's Hospital to Warren J. and Joan Olson. Bridget was number 3 in the line of 6 children and was known as the middle child, sharing that distinction, with her sister and partner in childhood crimes and shenanigans, Rita (Pete), child number 4 and they have the scars to prove it. After each incident one would be screaming "Don't tell Mom and Dad" as the other one would be crying in pain from the injury that been incurred. For a summer job as a teenager, Bridget worked at the KC Zoo in the pony and elephant ride concession. Bridget was one of Starlite the Elephant handlers. Bridget had a deep passion for horses and that passion took her and her horse, Mary Jane, to Camp Little Flower, where she worked as the horseback riding counselor. After Camp Little Flower closed, Bridget became a cab driver for Yellow Cab, for numerous years. Bridget loved driving her cab, but was given the opportunity to drive the medical transport van for Yellow Cab and St. Joseph Hospital. Because of Bridget's hard work as the medical transport van driver, she was promoted to Supervisor for the KCI terminal shuttle service. Bridget wanted more and that led her to the ATA Metro bus service on December 8, 1997, as a bus driver. On January 1, 2020, Bridget hung up her driving gloves and retired after 23 years of impeccable service, with the ATA. Bridget received numerous accolades and safe driver awards while at the ATA.
For vacations, Bridget loved to travel and during her travels she discovered the Grand Canyon and the mule rides. After her first visit to the Grand Canyon, Bridget continued to visit the Grand Canyon every year and would take the scenic mule rides every time. This was a trip Bridget looked forward to every year.
Bridget was preceded in death by her parents, Warren J. and Joan Olson; her sister, Patricia Roney; her nephew, John Bennett Greenwell II; her horse, Mary Jane and her beloved dog Kilo, who were all waiting for her, to welcome her home to Heaven.
Bridget is survived by her sisters, Kay (John) Greenwell, Rita Olson-Stawicki, Theresa TC (Kirk) Van Baale; brother, Warren G. Olson; niece, Sarah Greenwell; nephew, Warren R. Olson and long time friend and travel companion, Sister Ann Strizek, CSJ.
Bridget's family would like to thank the staff at TMC West, especially the staff of 4 Red, who were very caring and compassionate.
Bridget has earned her wings and Heaven is a better place now.
