

Brownell Wayne (Brownie) Landes, 91, Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully Saturday, September 12th, 2015 at Menorah Medical Center surrounded by his family. Brownie Landes was born February 11th, 1924, in Kansas City to Roy S. Landes and Hettie Mae (Thomas).
He was preceded in death by his sons Brion Landes and Dr. Bruce Landes. He leaves behind his loving wife Edna; his daughters Sharon Veskerna (Don Kent) and Diane Adam (Jim); his brother Ken Landes (Sally); his daughters-in law Debra Landes and Jeanne Landes; his grandchildren Jessica Chhatre (Akhil), Ashley Senkowski (Mike), Danielle Adam, Austin Adam (Kaitlyn), Riley Adam, Trevor Adam, Kaitlin Smith (Garrett), and Sam Landes; and two great-grandchildren Shaan and Maya Chhatre.
Brownie graduated from Northeast High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. He was a Private First Class in the Signal Corps of the 103rd Infantry Division during World War II. In 1944, PFC Landes was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for laying critical communications wire beneath heavy enemy machine gun fire in France. Upon his return to the US, Brownie attended the University of Kansas, became a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began a 43 year career with Bendix in 1949 and retired in 1992 as a Senior Supervising Engineer. Brownie and Edna Riley were married in 1951, and raised their four children in Kansas City.
Brownie was an active member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, water skiing and gardening. In addition, he was a great man who could fix anything. He will be missed and forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to all.
Family and friends will celebrate Brownie's life with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19th, at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall, Kansas City, MO, 64114. A reception/luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Graveside services will be held following the reception at 1:00 pm at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, MO.
