Bruce was born and raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where he spent most of his early years. In his 30s, he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1973. His time in service was a source of quiet pride and shaped the steadfast values he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, he worked on garage doors in Fort Dodge and continued that line of work after moving to Kansas City. He later went on to work in construction, a career he remained in for the rest of his working life.
Bruce was a steadfast and dependable man, always there for his friends and family. He loved fishing and spending time at the lake, especially with his son Michael and the close friends who had followed him from Iowa to Missouri. Those moments meant the world to him.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Donald A. Behrens, and his mother, Carolyn “Lady” Behrens, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
He is survived by his son Michael Kaestner and Michael’s wife Crystal, and their children Colt and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister Linda and her husband Dave, along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on January 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at McGilley and Sheil Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri. A graveside service in Fort Dodge, Iowa, will be held at a later date.
