He grew up in Clay Center, Kansas, a son of Harold and Violet Mosburg born on July 17, 1931. He is the oldest of five: Bruce, Richard, Bill, and Geary. Growing up, Calvin enjoyed playing high school football, riding motorcycles, and fixing cars.
After Calvin graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1953, he enlisted in the US Army. He served for six years as a Drill Sergeant and a Post Guard.
On January 4, 1953, Calvin married Donis Anderson. They went on to have seven children: Rodney, Vicky, Kelly, Tracy, Meg, Timothy, and Mindy; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
While enlisted, Calvin and Donis moved around from Fort Riley to Fort Carson to Fort Knox, before ending up settling in the Midwest. After his time in service, he became an entrepreneur investing in several other companies before starting Mosburg Construction in 1965, which was his true passion, with him working well into his 70’s.
Calvin was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kansas City. As a Christian, he dedicated a great deal of time and work at the church, including supporting the Boy Scout Troop 110. Calvin’s dedication resulted in him becoming an honoree warrior of the Tribe of Mic-o-say.
Calvin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life, Calvin was a true cowboy, riding, cutting, and roping. He had a passion for horses, which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. As a builder and handyman, he was always working on something and was willing to help out everyone. Calvin was quick to make friends, always had a story or joke to share. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He was survived by his wife Donis; his children Rodney, Vicky, Tracy, Meg, Timothy, and Mindy; and his brothers Geary Mosburg of Manhattan, KS and Bill Mosburg of Bonner Springs, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Violet Mosburg, his son Kelly and his brothers Bruce Mosburg and Richard Mosburg.
