Carl was born August 17, 1937 to Carl DiMartino, Sr. and Veda Pisciotta DiMartino in Kansas City, Missouri. Carl was a kind and gentle man. He provided well for his family. He retired from TWA with 42 years of service. He also worked other jobs. Carl retired from Lowes Hardware with 10 years of service. He worked part-time with Reece & Nichols Realtors and was a co-developer of "The Winds", a home addition in Parkville. He was an energetic bunny because he 'took a licking and went on ticking.'
Carl was named after his father, Carl Sr., who was also a hard worker. Carl Sr. owned Carl & Sons Lawn Service. Carl shared in lawn service duties at a young age. His parents were born in the U.S. but his grandparents came from Comporeale, Sicily in Italy. His mother, Veta Pisciotta, was a great cook. The whole family would enjoy dinner at her home on Sundays. Carl came from a family with 5 other siblings: Angeline, Charles, Frank, Joe and Jack.
Carl met the love of his life, Jeanne Leone, at a wedding. Their love for music and dance was obvious. They danced the night away. After 2 years of courting, they married on October 25, 1958. Their unity in pulling the cart together has yielded 63 years of blissful marriage this year. The birth of their two children was the greatest joy of his life. First, there was Carl III, named after his father. Then there was his daughter, Jeana. Carl was a devoted father to Carl and Jeana.
The YMCA voted Carl as Indian Chief of Indian Guides, an organization for young boys and their fathers. He also participated in Indian Princesses which served fathers and daughters. Carl enjoyed many times of fun and togetherness with his son and daughter. He coached Carl III's flag football and Little League Baseball teams. Carl Jr. was a Boy Scout leader and he earned the Tribe of Mic-O-Say badge. He was also pleased to watch his son become an Eagle Scout. Jeana's love for swimming was evident at 4 years old. She performed synchronized swimming water ballet to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." Her dad was right beside her. Later, Jeana was on the YMCA year-round swim team. Carl would wake up at 4 in the morning to take her to practice. He would shower and shave so he'd be ready for work while Jeana practiced with the swim team. Carl Jr. and Carl III were entrepreneurs when they opened Carls III's Stop and Shop convenience store. They also opened Red Shamrock and That's Right Motors. Carl's motto was 'Service before Self.' He was always helping where needed.
Because of his hard work and giving nature he did many things in his life:
*He served 8 years in the Missouri National Guard, 205th Battalion as an ambulance drive
*He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since he was 19 years old and became a 4th degree
Knight. Carl belonged to Holy Family Council 14266 as an honorary member
*He belonged to the Father Bernard Donnelly & Chalice Club, devoting his chalice or monetary amount to
Holy Family Church upon his death.
*Carl was a member of Holy Family Church since 1980.
*He was a past President of UNICO, an organization that supported Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity,
Charity and Opportunity. It was founded to show that Italian Americans were loyal to America.
His wife, Jeanne, was his guardian angel caregiver. She exercised the true meaning of their wedding vows: 'for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health 'til death do us part.' Carl was a caring husband, devoted father, and a true humanitarian.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Angeline Bonavia and husband, Don; brothers, Charles, Frank, and Joe; bro-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Ann Rizzuti, Ralph and Carrie Storms, bro-in-law, Charles Haas, Gene Molinaro; sis-in-law, Grace Sanders, and aunt, Geneva Mingrone.

A beaming light from our household is gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our hearts
That never can be filled.
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard-working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the BEST!
May God be with him,
His loving family.
