

Carl Dorsey Utter entered into eternal peace with dignity at home surrounded by his family on May 23, 2010. Born in Springfield, MO, April 1, 1920 to Lula L. and Carl W. Utter. Carl grew up in St. Michael's Parish in Kansas City, Mo., where he enjoyed many friends through the years. Carl served in the Army AirCorp during World War II. Carl married Mary on September 16, 1949 and they raised their 3 children in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Raytown, Mo. Carl graduated from East High School and attended Manual Trade School. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1982 after 36 years of service and went on to volunteer with the Telephone Pioneers of America working on various projects including Salvation Army bell ringers and installing Lifelines for needy individuals. Carl was involved in numerous civic organizations including the American Legion. Carl is preceded in death by his oldest son, Carl "Bob" Utter; sisters, Midge Hedberg, Pauline Batliner; and brother, Jerry Utter, as well as 2 grandsons, Butch and Justin. Carl leaves behind his wife, Mary Utter, of 61 years; daughter, Donna Stillwell & husband Phil; son, John Utter & wife Rose; 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 8 great- grandchildren. Carl was a simple man with unique character, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. Friends and relatives may visit the chapel on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 between 6 and 8 p.m., where rosary will be recited. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church; Raytown at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, burial immediately to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
