

Carolyn Jane (Horn) Donovan, 91, of Grandview, MO, passed away June 2, 2014 at St. Luke’s East Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1922 in Gardner, KS to Clifford and Ura Horn. She married the love of her life Eldon C. Donovan Jr. (Don) on Feb. 20, 1939 and moved to Kansas City, MO, soon after World War II.
Carolyn was a super daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother who truly loved her family and her church. She has been a member of Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church for the past 10 years. As a young wife and mother, she and her family were members of the Paseo Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. She also enjoyed being a den mother in the Cub Scout Pack that was sponsored by the church.
After their two sons completed high school, she went to work at Adler’s Department Store in downtown Kansas City. She learned to drive a car as a final promise to Don before he died in March of 1974. Following his death, she worked as a cashier at Bingham Junior High in the Kansas City School District and later at her niece’s shop (Pat’s Place) in Gardner, KS.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Ronald Horn and Darrell Horn, two sisters Lorene Higgins and Barbara Brown, and her daughter-in-law Bonnie Donovan.
Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Alan W. Donovan Sr. of Belton, MO, and Timothy E. Donovan (Linda) of Grandview; five grandchildren, Alan W. Donovan Jr. (Donna), Carolyn Kay Webster (Tim), Jeffrey A. Donovan (Susan), Marla L. Lynn (Rob), and Debbra Page (Doug); twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her niece, Pat Rankin (Homer) and numerous loving family members.
