

Catherine M. Baker, 93, passed away peacefully at Villa Saint Joseph on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, her home for the past twelve years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 25th, 11:30 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., one hour prior to the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Villa Saint Joseph Nursing Home, 11901 Rosewood, Overland Park, KS, 66209.
Catherine was born July 14, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to Selem and Rose George as one of seven children. She attended St. Vincent Girls School. She later met and married John P. Baker, Sr. and over the years had four sons and a daughter. Together, she and Johnny opened several taverns called Johnny Bakers, well-known entertainment establishments in Kansas City. Their businesses were popularly known for live bands and entertainment for many years that spanned from 1945 through the 1980’s. Catherine was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, the American Lebanese Club, and her favorite poker group.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Johnny Baker in 1978 and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, John, Jr. (Judy), Larry (Dorothy), Bobby (Mary), Steve, and daughter, Linda (Bob) Williams. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jack, Julie, Jill, Jimmy, Eric (Amy), Patrick (Christy), Matt (Claire), Becky, Nikki, Melissa, Bobby (Danielle), and Alan, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and nephew, Jim Geoulos.
We are eternally grateful to the staff of Villa Saint Joseph who loved and cared for our Mom for the past twelve years. They made Mom feel safe, comfortable and became her second family.
