Catherine Ann Giudici passed away in her home July 17th. Catherine was born in 1956, grew up in Raytown, MO, attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school and graduated from Archbishop O’Hara High School. She went on to study at Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, and the University of Missouri/KC before moving to live and work in Dallas, TX, in the hotel service arena. After a few years she returned to family and friends and the city she loved. Except for her brief flirtation with Dallas she was a deeply, enthusiastically and devoted Kansas Citian. She loved the fountains and boulevards, the Plaza at Christmas time and other times, her childhood backyard Swope Park, the Royals, the pride and fact of Kansas City Barbecue, a Winstead’s burger and malt, and the guilty pleasure of Jerry’s for breakfast. She loved the warm hugs of summer, the cold shoulders of winter and the competing colors of spring and fall. She loved Kansas City for its constants and extremes.
Catherine worked in a variety of clerical and retail sales positions in Kansas City during her adult life. Her happiest times revolved around hanging with friends, going to scary movies and finding great seafood in surprising new places. For many years her favorite thing of all was chain-smoking, dishing and laughing with Aunt Elizabeth. All close to her know that Catherine loved dogs, most especially her puppies, invariably and inevitably Lhasa Apsos. They were her friends and companions, her unconditionals, first Vito, then Vinnie and lastly Tony who she lost several months ago. She was looking forward to adopting a new rescue Lhasa Apso on her birthday July 29th.
Like tens of millions of Americans, Catherine experienced a lifelong struggle with the disease of addiction. It was a fight she never gave up, but one she was unable to win.
Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved Mother Dorothy, her father Frank G. Giudici, and her dear Aunts Mary and Elizabeth. She is survived by her sister Mary Giudici McDaniel, brother-in-law Nello McDaniel, many cousins and long-time and new found friends.
Contributions in Catherine’s name may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. A memorial gathering will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019 at McGilley State Line Chapel.
