The world lost one of its greatest teachers and travelers, Cathleen Joann (Frisch) Sullivan, age 76, on February 13th, 2018. She peacefully passed at St. Luke's Hospice House after a tough battle with cancer that she couldn't overcome. "Pie" as she was known by her grandchildren spent her final weeks visiting and celebrating with her family and friends in her home surrounded by love and laughter. Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Bishop Miege High School auditorium, 5041 Reinhardt Dr, Roeland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 in the Miege Chapel. The family requests contributions to the GCS Project. 2795 Estates Drive, Park City, Utah 84060; www.gcsproject.org.
Cathleen was born August 21, 1941 in Detroit, MI to Joseph Lawrence and Eleanor (Zdrojeski) Frisch. Her family moved to Chicago in 1942 where many fond childhood memories were made until she moved to Kansas City at the age of 12. Cathie Jo, as she was known by many, graduated from St. Teresa's Academy in 1958 and continued many lifelong friendships from her high school days that continued and grew late into life, and even developed into a monthly book club! Cathleen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UMKC in 1965. She taught History, Psychology and Geography at Bishop Miege High School for more than 25 years where she greatly influenced and inspired the students in her classroom to see and explore the world. Ever the competitor, she coached the boys and girls tennis teams to four state championships! Miege became her family and the relationships continued well beyond her retirement.
Cathie traveled the globe with a passion to be the change she wished to see in the world. A geography teacher whose summers were filled with globe trekking through adventures to all 7 continents and over 70 countries. Each adventure she was accompanied by her best friend Joan Carlton. They travelled the world together and now the cosmos.
Travel would leave her speechless but always made her a storyteller. All who knew Pie aspired to continue in her footsteps and experience the world just as she did.
Cathleen's survivors include son Theodore "Ted" Sullivan and his wife Emily, daughter Jessica "Jesse" Mitchell and her husband Ben; brother Joel Frisch and his wife Mary and brother Flip Frisch and wife Jill, her three adoring grandchildren Coley Sullivan, Ivy Mitchell and Oliver Mitchell as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, YaYas and friends.
Her passion and spirit will continue through us with each trek and odyssey we make. It was a gift to know her and a reward to travel with her. Cathie made the world better by daring to live the life she always wanted. She will forever be admired, cherished and loved...and now she has a bird's eye view of every wonder of the world.
