

Catherine "Cathy" M. Garcia, 80, Mission, Kansas, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, at St. Pius X Church, 55th and Woodson, Mission, Kansas. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. Friends may call 6:00- 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Church. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Kansas City Hospice, Kansas Chapter, 10100 W. 87th Street, Suite 100, Overland Park, KS, 66212.
Cathy was born on March 6, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Flavel and Bertha (Vaughn) Ruark. After raising her family, Cathy went to work for the Social Security Administration from 1964 to 1982. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the St. Pius X Church and the Altar Society. Cathy was an avid bridge player, playing with the same partners for more than 20 years. She was a Johnson County resident for 54 years. Cathy was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Garcia, in May of 1977, and her parents. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Victor, of the home; her children and their families, Patti Zwiegel, and her husband, Bill, of Roeland Park, Kansas; Michael Garcia, and his wife, Diann, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and Vicki Bays and her husband, Bill, of Emporia, Kansas; her brother, Albert Ruark, and his wife, Pat, of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Craig Garcia, Jacob Sommers, Melissa Beasley, Christian Zwiegel, Nicolle Jackson, Lindsay Bays, Ryan Bays; step granddaughter, Katie Cornell, and great-grandchildren, Nathan Jackson and Sydney Wilson.
