Cecilia was born July 2nd, 1927 in Farmington, Iowa and was raised by Ola and Laura Rider. She was born the only girl among five brothers. Cecilia worked as a hairdresser for most of her life, owning her own Salon in Kansas City, Missouri. Her first husband, Samuel Orlando, passed away and she finished raising their three children CC, Jim, and Gary. She later met Ed Astry and they wed in June of 1969 and moved to New Mexico. They began traveling throughout North America in their RV. This is when she discovered her love for art and began painting. Now her loved ones have her beautiful artwork to cherish forever.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and five brothers, her first husband Samuel Orlando, second husband Ed Astry, son-in-law James Cross, step-sons Alan and Larry Astry, daughter-in-law Roxanne Astry, and grandson Philip Cross. Cecilia is survived by one daughter, CC Cross, two sons Jim Orlando (Sue), and Gary Orlando. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many more family and friends.
The family will be hosting combined services for Cecilia Astry and her son Gary Orlando, on December 2nd, 2023 at Floral Hills Funeral Home (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133). The visitation is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 AM. There will be a graveside for Cecilia at 11:30 AM at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens (Same Address).
