Charles “Chuck” Dymer, age 74, died August 20 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Chuck was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis two years ago and continued to engage in his normal activities (Covid style) before his health and lifestyle decline six months ago. True to form, he never lost his trademark sense of humor and courageously stayed in, mostly, good spirits until the end.
Chuck was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended minor seminary in Lennox, MA, during high school, and graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Later, he began his post-graduate studies at Waterloo University, Ontario, Canada, where he lived until 1974.
Chuck began his career in the software industry and later went on to conduct workplace seminars for National Seminars. While doing this, he read a book called “Six Thinking Hats” by Dr Edward de Bono. It changed his life and career. He contacted the author and received certification to teach training programs in the Six Thinking Hats technique and concepts. Thus began his 33-year career as a facilitator in creative thinking, traveling the world to help people develop and enhance their thinking skills.
Chuck’s love of discovery and personal development, as well as his work, took him to 49 states (darn it; didn't get to Alaska) and 40 countries. He was known to family, friends and professional associates for his intelligence, engaging sense of humor and mastery of puns. More so, Chuck will be remembered for his warmth and kindness, his patience, his genuine concern for others, his beautiful spirit and of course his creativity.
Chuck leaves behind his wife Katie Heschmeyer, his sister Patty Dymer and her husband Bob Hovey of Venice FL; his sister Mary Cavaliere of Pittsburgh; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and good friends and colleagues from all over the world. To say he will be deeply missed is an understatement, but we know memories of him will comfort us and recollection of his incredible wit will always make us laugh.
Services will be at St James Catholic Church at 3909 Harrison, Kansas City, MO, KCMO 64110 on Saturday August 27th . Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by a memorial mass at 10:00am. Donations are welcomed in his memory to Union Cemetery Historical Society (where he was a board member), St James Catholic Church or any organization of your choice.
