I met Charles about 60 years ago when we were both employed at Allen’s Dairy.   I was a Freshman and he was a Sophmore at East High School.   We worked together about  3 years until he graduated and went off to college.  
My first impression of Charles was that I immediately liked him!  He was a hard worker and a good mentor, but most of all he was fun!  I liked his wit and attitude.  We weren’t always teamed together (Allen’s liked to schedule a 4 worker crew that would vary throughout the week).  But when we were scheduled together I was glad, because he was a favorite of mine.  I have many fond memories of Charles.  Mostly I remember after work gathering late at night at his house to socialize and watch Jack Parr, and then Steve Allen.  His home was only a few houses up from Allen’s located at Denver & 24th street.   Charles and his parents generously welcomed us into his home.   They tended to be up late waiting for his Dad to get home from the Kansas City Star.
One immediate memory that has come to my mind was the first night I was driving my first car.  Charles shared  that night with me.  Cars and driving were important to both of us in those days!
When Charles graduated and went off to college we lost contact with each other.  Several times I checked with common acquaintances on his location,  and looked for him at multi-year class reunions, but I was never able to locate him until about one year ago through Facebook.  I was elated to renew our contact and looked forward to his postings.  Since we were both retired I had thought we would meet up again.  Regretfully, I waited too long!  I am still stunned and disappointed that I’ve missed us getting together.  I want to extend to his family my sympathy for their loss.  He will be missed!

We will miss our friend at the jam sessions where we enjoyed sharing the simplest form of true joy, our music. Charlie was such a truly happy person and was quick to invite you into his circle. Our most sincere condolences to you Connie. May your many pleasant memories comfort you.

About 45 years ago, I met Charles and Connie Featherstone about as a  eighth grade student attending College Heights United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was my choir director, and he and Connie were  role models.  Connie helped me grow up at camp in ways that my own family could not.  As an adult, I became reacquainted with Connie and Charlie  when I was invited to join a singing group, Just Friends.  Although I was not a founding member, Robert (Robin) Wade made the  fourth member of our group.  Connie, Charlie, Robin, and I sang for several years traveling to nursing homes, churches, and other occasions for concerts.  Mostly, we had fun rehearsing and creating recordings.  My heart is heavy at the loss of this friend.  Connie and Charlie are names I almost always said together.  Connie, my heart goes out to you at your loss.  Aslan will comfort you and those who will miss Charlie.   Music will mend our hearts.   We are more than "Just Friends."  The photo attached is one I took from our back porch from our Idaho home. I am heartbroken to hear of Charlie's passing. He was such wonderful caring man and a friend to all. I truly loved playing music with him and seeing his pure joy in playing his harps..."Born On The Bayou" will never sound the same again...I will miss him greatly as a fellow musician and friend and this world will seem a little colder without him...rest in peace my friend...
