
Charles Philip King, 85, passed away on January 27, 2026. He was devoted to being the best husband, father, and grandfather his entire life. Charles was born on January 16, 1941 in Millersburg, Iowa to Charles E. King and Marguerite Deitz. Charles was raised by his grandfather, Charles “Jack” King, and his uncle, Colonel(Ret.) Baird King (US Army), living in Germany, Japan, Millersburg (IA), and other locations in the United States. Charles joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Berlin Crisis and Vietnam. He married Mary Kate Ballard in 1968. After leaving the U.S. Army, Charles moved his family into their forever home in the KC Northland.
Charles began working for Chemegro (known today as Bayer) as a lab technician, later working in management in transportation and hazardous materials. Charles and Mary raised two children in their home. Charles made it his life’s ambition to give his family a home filled with love, support, and fun. After retirement, Charles became an accomplished craftsman in woodworking, spending countless hours sharing this passion with his grandchildren. Charles was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Combat Infantryman Association, Purple Heart Foundation, and the Americal Division Alumni Association.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles King and Margeruite Deitz; his grandfather, Charles “Jack” King; his uncle, Baird A. King; his sister, Phyllis Sauter; and his son-in-law, Terry Allison.
Charles is survived by wife, Mary King; sister, Jacqueline Stoltzfus; daughter, Tammy Allison; son, John King; and daughter-in-law, Kelly King. Charles is additionally survived by his grandchildren, Katie Allison (partner, Rob Frazier), Michael Allison (wife, Kara), Erika Storm (husband, Brad), Jake King (wife, Raelynn); two great-grandchildren, Caroline King (Jake/Raelynn) and Harley Allison (Michael/Kara Allison), and countless nieces and nephews and other family.
Charles will be buried at a private graveside service with his immediate family.
