Chip was born on September 20, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Maryann and Charles "Cliff" Minx before moving with his family to Kansas City. He married Darlene Bunting Minx on September 12, 1970, while in his junior year at the University of Missouri. He graduated with a degree in History the following year.
After college, Chip returned with Darlene to Kansas City. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and began a career in medical sales that lasted more than four decades. His greatest loves in life were his wife and his family.
As an Eagle Scout, he cherished camping with his sons for Boy Scouts and helping them achieve their own Eagle ranks. He was a talented vocalist and enjoyed singing along to his favorite music and rooting for his favorite teams including the MU Tigers, Royals and Chiefs. His passion for military history ultimately led him to become a respected WWI military memorabilia expert, consulting on books and making friends across the globe.
Chip was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Darlene; and his brother, Justin. He is survived by his two sons, Tyler Minx (Laurie), and Adam Minx (Rhea); four grandchildren plus one on the way; as well as five siblings, Mark Minx, Gail Montemore (Mike), Patrick Minx (Sue), Donna Ackerson (Mark) and Matt Minx (Leslie).
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Mount Moriah Cemetery located at 10507 Holmes Road in south Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Darlene Minx Memorial Journalism Scholarship Fund at North Kansas City Education Foundation; Attention: Jan Lewis; 2000 NE 46th Street; Kansas City, MO, 64116.
