

Charles Walter Schroeder, 88, Independence, MO, passed away peacefully August 19, 2015 at home. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty, Independence, MO. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave., Ste. 204, Overland Park, KS 66202.
Charles was born April 26, 1927 in Norborne, MO. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 at the age of 16, serving on the USS Boxer during WWII. Charles met Lupe at a skating rink in Oakland, CA and they were married August 16, 1948. They moved to Kansas City in 1952. He was employed at Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and especially being a member of VFW Post 4043. Charles and his wife loved traveling with cousins, Jane and Richard, to tropical locations. He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO.
He was preceded death in his parents August and Alma Schroeder, sister and brother-in-law Mamie and Leroy Johnson, and cousins Jane and Richard Hartnett. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Lupe P. Schroeder; son Charles J. Schroeder (Karen Hall); granddaughters Alicia Zaragoza (David) and Maralie Lukens; great-grandchildren Andrew and Adriana Zaragoza and Cali Lukens; niece Connie Sue Davis; cousin Ruth Formella (John); great-nieces and nephews and friends.
