Born on October 19, 1935, in Violet Hill, Arkansas, Chuck was the fourth child of Hubert Milton and Alta Mabel Conner-Shaver. After graduating from Violet Hill High School, he spent some time working in Wenatchee, Washington, before pursuing communication courses in Wichita, Kansas. In 1958, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving at a Nike Missile site near Detroit.
Following his military service, Chuck moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he began working at the Western Electric Plant in Lee’s Summit. It was there that he met Annette, the love of his life. They recently celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Chuck’s career took him to Bendix for a short time before he joined Trans World Airlines (TWA) in 1966 as a radio technician. He dedicated 33 years to TWA, including two memorable years working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with his family by his side.
Chuck’s greatest joy was his family. The arrival of his son, Douglas, and two years later, his daughter, Kristi, brought immeasurable happiness to his life. This joy only grew with the births of his grandchildren—Camden, Evette, and Milo—each of whom cherished their time with "PaPa." He also shared a deep bond with his nieces and nephews, treasuring every moment with them.
Family was at the heart of Chuck’s life. He loved reminiscing about special times with his siblings—Eleandor, Jean, Billy, and Rufus. He looked forward to the annual Shaver-Martin Family Reunions, visits to the family farm in Arkansas, and reconnecting with friends at high school reunions.
As an adult, Chuck was baptized at Besonia Baptist Church in South Kansas City. Later, he and Annette became devoted members of Gashland Baptist Church, where they found a loving church family.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Annette, of the home; son, Douglas Shaver of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Kristi Shaver of Richmond, CA; and grandchildren, Camden, Evette, and Milo Shaver, all of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Shaver Guthrie of Lee’s Summit, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Eleandor, and his brothers Billy and Rufus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to Gashland Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
