Charles LeRoy Shelby passed away from this life peacefully, November 28, 2015, after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted family and affectionately cared for by his team at Research Hospital.
Charlie was born to LeRoy and Clara Shelby on June 29, 1953. The second of two children, Charlie graduated from Northeast High School in 1971. At the age of sixteen, he joined his father working with Milgram’s Food Stores, Inc. and quickly moved up the ranks to the produce department. He took pride in his work from an early age, and later appreciated that meticulously selecting the “right produce” for his customers, and building genuine relationships was the foundation for a future career he loved.
Charlie enjoyed success and fulfillment as a floor covering salesmen for over 30 years in the Kansas City area. His kind, selfless and caring nature touched the lives of many co-workers, friends, and customers throughout his career. Charlie is known as “The Legend” among his Tingle Flooring family who plans to retire his salesmen number, 007, into the newly formed 'Hall of Fame.'
Charlie's hands and mind were never idle. He was a creator, artist, mechanic and handy man that conquered any challenge and perfected any project. He loved building custom Harley's and spending time with his family at the Lake of the Ozarks. Charlie embraced life’s gifts, always made sure he had something special to look forward to and never missed an important event. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and friend who truly lived his life for others.
He is survived by his four children, Becky Tebbe and husband Andrew, Brandon Shelby and wife Kasey, Alison Haynes and husband Stephen, Megan Diekmann and husband Andrew, his father LeRoy Shelby, sister Nancy Sykes, three nephews, and best buddy, grandson Benjamin “T-Bone” Tebbe. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Shelby.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at Research Medical Center, especially Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Kim Carter and the entire care team at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.
Charlie maintained his gracious, infectious attitude through a courageous and admirable battle. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who are better people having been blessed to know him
