Cheryl Anne Stokes, 75, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, and friend to many, went home to be with her Heavenly Father and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 21,2025, surrounded by her family, after losing her valiant fight with cancer. Soon afterward, they moved to the Kansas City area, Cheryl graduated from Van Horn high school in 1967 and attended college for a short time.
She was employed at Hallmark cards, both as a full time and a part time employee. While working at Hallmark, she met and married Martie W. Stokes. They were married on February 14, 1970. They lived in Independence, Missouri for three years where they began their family before moving to Blue Springs and buying the house they still live in. Cheryl and Martie have been members of Lee’s Summit Bible Church for more than a decade.
Cheryl leaves behind her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Martie, of the home, sons Andrew Christopher Stokes and his wife Angel of Grain Valley, MO, and Jeffrey Alan Stokes and his wife Mindy of Grain Valley, MO. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and step-grandchildren, who she doted over and was so proud of, Emily, Nathan, Brock, Madison, McCayla and Emerson; her brother Phillip K, Hooper and his wife Debbie of Independence, MO, and her sister Phyllis Delaine Stone and her husband Jan of Independence, MO; several nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. Cheryl had two passions and was accomplished at both. One was counted cross stitching which she learned from her mother and mother-in-law. She spent countless hours over the years following this passion. The other was reading. From the time she was a small child and throughout her life, she was an avid reader and loved to discuss books with her friends who were also avid readers.
