Chester D. Young, Jr. was born on October 30, 1926 and passed away on February 3, 2018. He was born and lived in Kansas City for most of his life, marrying his childhood sweetheart, Norma Jean Kresse, in 1948. After returning from the war, he graduated from KSU with a BS in Electrical Engineering and later earned an MBA from UMKC. He retired from Bendix/AlliedSignal Corporation in Kansas City.
Chester was a member of the Ararat Shrine and drove the Shriner hospital van from Kansas City, MO to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St Louis once a week so that sick children could receive medical care. He was a Member of the Legion of Honor, marching in parades all over the US. During his retirement, he served as a navigation instructor for the Power Squadron. In addition to being a skilled mechanic, Chester was an avid do-it-yourselfer, sharing his expertise with his children, neighbors, and friends who sought his aid.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Kansas City and attended weekly services with Norma and his grandchildren.
He and Norma danced through life as members of Sunflower Squares, Circle 8, and Ranch Hands square dance clubs and served as President of Whirlaways Square Dance club at Ward Parkway Country Club. They wintered in Ft. Myers Beach in Florida for years after retirement, marching and dancing there.
The community of Foxwood Springs will miss his wonderful singing and yodeling.
