

Dr. Christian H. Stehr of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away on March 8, 2024. A visitation will be held at 10 AM, April 13, 2024 followed by a graveside memorial service at Floral Hills Funeral Home 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd Kansas City MO 64133
Dr. Stehr was born on January 16, 1941 in Fraustadt Germany to Dorothea (Buettner) Stehr and Wolfgang Stehr. He immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of fourteen where they resided in Chicago, IL. After graduating from Evanston High School in 1959 he attended Northwestern University majoring in premedical studies. He then entered Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University where he became a medical doctor in1967 and worked at Cook County Hospital in the Emergency Room. After graduation he began a rotating internship at the University of Iowa which he completed in 1968. At the completion of his studies he enlisted in the US Navy where he was stationed at Great Lakes and Beaufort naval hospitals.
Dr. Stehr was married in 1965 to Gudrun Weinsaft Farthing and together they had three children. He then began a Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Neurology and later transferred to Anesthesiology and Pain Management. After completion of his training in 1974, he practiced in Springfield, Missouri with Physicians Anesthesia Service then later moving to Overland Park, Kansas where he practiced at St Josephs Hospital in Kansas City Missouri. In 1985, Dr. Stehr became the Chief of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas and married his forever wife Shirley in 1992. They relocated to Hilton Head South Carolina in 1998 where he continued to practice Anesthesia in various locations and served as an Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesia until he retired in 2005. He was an avid photographer and accompanied his wife Shirley Houser-Stehr who was employed as a nurse practitioner onboard Holland America Line cruise ships. Together they traveled the world until her retirement in 2017.
He is survived by his spouse of 31 years Shirley Houser-Stehr. Other surviving family members include a daughter Christina Stehr Radocha, two sons; Kevin Stehr (Melissa) Andrew Stehr (Susan) and a stepson Brian Houser (Julie) and his sister Antje Stehr. Grandchildren include; Riley Stehr, Annika Stehr and four nieces; Samantha Dominelli, Jennifer Dominelli George, Margherita Angelini, Katia Angelini, and nephew Giovanni Angelini.
He was preceded in death by a sister Eicke Stehr Angelini and step daughter Dr. Beth Ann Houser.
