

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Ames Cushman, of Raytown, Missouri. Chris was born in Kansas City, Missouri, July 29, 1967. He died at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit on November 20th, 2025 with his family by his side. He was 58 years old at the time of his passing.
He will join his mother Barbara Cushman and father Bob Cushman in death along his grandparents Monte and Leona Cushman and Ann Tyson.
Chris leaves behind six children: Emily Harpster (husband Wayne) of Harrod, Ohio, Patrick Cushman, of Riverview, Florida, Jack Cushman (wife Jazmine), of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Abby Fry (husband Sebastian), of Riverview, Florida, Oliver Cushman, of Hastings Nebraska, and Henry Cushman (wife Ashlynn), of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. His kids gave him six beautiful grandchildren that he adored, Ryan, Rosie, Sophie, Bentley, Theodore, and Alex. Additionally, Chris leaves behind his younger brother, Matthew Cushman (wife Crissi) of Oak Grove, Missouri, Nephew, Tyson Cushman of Bellingham, Washington, Niece, Madelon Cushman, of Kansas City, Missouri, Aunt, Pat Tyson, of Raytown, Stepmother Deb Cushman, Lee’s Summit, many cousins near and far, longtime friend Jill Nevers, Bellefontaine, Ohio, and many more from the hockey, soccer, Corvair, motorcycle, and classmate families.
Chris graduated from Raytown South High School in 1985 and from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1994 with Degrees in German Language and Literature, Microbiology, and eventually Juris Doctorate from UMKC’s prestigious law school. His academic life was simply exemplary. In High School he graduated with honors and academic achievements in science and speech and debate. He was one of the most successful scoring debaters in school history. After he graduated, he helped future generations of high school speech and debate students at his alma mater including his brother. At UMKC he was a nationally ranked and recognized Debater. He won many awards including being inducted into the UMKC Debate Hall of Fame. He was an exceptional researcher, sharp, and analytical in extemporaneous situations. At UMKC’s law school, he was recognized numerous times for his abilities and graduated with great distinction.
Chris spent most of his professional life as a lawyer and ghost writer for several law firms. He enjoyed the work of litigation and the law.
Chris never lost his love for debate and argument. He loved feeling the wind on his face while riding a motorcycle. He especially valued staying in touch with his friends, regardless of their location. He enjoyed watching the sports that he followed like soccer, hockey, football and baseball.
Chris would want you all to know that despite leaving us way too early, he suffers no more.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this world are not worth comparing with the glory that is revealed to us in heaven” -Romans 8:18.
Chris will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 2nd at Newcomer’s Floral Hills, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Visitation starts at 1:00pm, followed by the service at 2:00pm.
