Chung-Hai Kim, 75, of Mission Hills, passed away December 15, 2012. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6401Wornall Terr., Kansas City, MO 64113. Interment in the Temple Mausoleum Estates in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
Mrs. Kim was born January 18, 1937 in Pyongyang, Korea, daughter of Chong Woon and Bok Nyu Lee. She attended Chongju Girls’ High School and graduated from Soo Do Women’s College, majoring in English literature. After graduation she taught middle school. She married Yon-Kol Kim in 1962.
Mrs. Kim moved to US in 1971 with husband and family, settling in Kansas City. She was a successful entrepreneur who with her husband established a chain of businesses in the metropolitan area, including C.J. Gold’s Department Store. She served as President of the Women’s Group and as Deacon at Korean United Presbyterian Church in Kansas City.
She loved traveling and classic Hollywood films. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Kim is survived by son Sean C. Kim of Kansas City, MO; daughter Yon J. Park and husband Jin of Mission Hills, KS; son David J. Kim and wife Jenny of Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren William, Matthew, and Phillip Park; and Andrew, Olivia and Sophia Kim.
