He then served in the U.S. Navy for four years on the USS Bennington. It was during this time in which he married the love of his life, Mabel. After his time in the service, Pete was then employed by repairing office equipment primarily with Smith Corona. He retired from Smith Corona in 1990. Upon retirement, Pete enjoyed his part time work and volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital. Pete had many loves and passions in his life. His first being his wife of 61 years, Mabel. Pete and Mabel had a love for traveling. They took many cruises and saw the world in their time together. Pete also took great joy in coaching his son Mike's little league baseball and basketball teams in Independence, MO.
He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, running, and attending Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawk games. Pete loved his son Mike, his granddaughters Natalie and Valerie, and most recently his great-granddaughters Addison and Mackenzie with all his heart. He could always be seen enjoying all their games and school activities as well as taking many trips with them.
Pete's greatest love, and the foundation of his life, was the love he had for Jesus Christ, his one true Savior. Pete gave his life to Jesus as a teenager while attending Bethany Baptist Church in Kansas City. Through his adult life, Pete led his family through their walk with Jesus. Pete, Mabel, and Mike belonged to Maywood Baptist Church, in Independence, MO where Pete served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was involved with the youth programs.
