Clayton O. Basham (Clay), 86, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away April 13, 2015. Visitation will be Monday, April 20, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Military honors immediately following.
The youngest of six children, Clay was born September 10, 1928 in Kansas City to Arthur S. and Laura E. (Noland) Basham. Clay was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beatrice of 59 years. Survivors include his five children Janet, Brian (Anita), Dona (Bill), Bruce (Shelia) and Paul; seven granddaughters, a step grandson and twelve great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion cats Rusty and Tommy.
Clay graduated from Northeast High School in 1945. A Korean War veteran, he served honorably in the 1st BN, 31st Regt., 7th Infantry, earning three Bronze Stars. After the Army, Clay worked as an area carpenter before spending his later years buying and restoring automobiles.
Clay always had a joke to share with everyone he met. He will be truly missed and never forgotten.
