

Clayton “Clay” Scott Mitchell, 57, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A visitation for Clay will be held starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, Kearney, MO.
Clay was born on February 29, 1968, to Joel and Carol Mitchell. During his school years, Clay was a standout baseball player—he once pitched a no-hitter and played in the Mickey Mantle World Series. His competitive spirit extended to bowling, a lifelong passion that earned him numerous accolades.
On September 15, 2006, Clay married the love of his life, Donise, at their beautiful home in the country. Together, they shared years of joy traveling, fishing, and cherishing time with their family. Clay never met a stranger and was known for his big heart, infectious laughter, and commitment to making sure everyone around him was having a good time.
Clay was a devoted father, but his greatest joy came in becoming a grandpa—a role he embraced with all the love in his heart.
He is survived by his mother, Carol (John) Baker; his beloved wife, Donise Mitchell; his sister, Leigh Ann (Jason) Gonsalves; his children: Aspen (Jon) Cox, Jason (Amanda) Montoya, Jackie (Brian) Garrett, and Cody (Cassie) Robinson; and his grandchildren: Phoenix, Trace (Kylie), Corbin, Cora, and Isla; as well as his great-grandchild, Blakeleigh. Clay was preceded in death by his father, Joel Mitchell, and his son, Corey Mitchell.
Clay’s presence lit up every room, and his memory will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and love to all who knew him.
