

Curtis Cornelius (Nick) Bynum Jr., son of the late Jessie B. Martin Bynum-Taylor & Curtis C Bynum Sr., was born on August 25, 1952 in Monroe, Louisiana. God called his servant home on Thursday, January 8, 2015.
Curtis was affectionately known as Jr., Nick, Bro, Curt, Daddy, Unc, Pa Pa, & Gramps. He graduated from Central High School through the Kansas City school district in 1970 and completed basic training in the US Air Force. On September 24, 1972, Curtis married Vivian Sparkman and through their union three children were born, Belinda, Jermaine, and Shenita. They were married for 42 years. Curtis was a family man. He always did his best to protect and provide for his family.
Curtis was employed with the Kansas City Star & Exclusive Maintenance Inc. until his declining health forced him into early retirement in 2006. In his pastime, Curtis, loved going fishing, watching and playing sports, horseback riding, watching western movies, and feeding the birds during the early morning hours. Curtis had a memorable effect on everyone he came in contact with; his personality was as big as his heart. Curtis always took the time to share his talents and skills with others and because of this, he helped foster change in the lives of many over the years. No matter what was going on, Curtis always enjoyed life and took the time to live his, to the fullest.
Curtis was introduced to Jesus Christ at an early age and enjoyed going to worship services on Sunday mornings. He was a man of God and he loved the Lord with all his heart. He was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Curtis was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie B. Taylor, his step father, James T. Taylor Jr., and his brother for life, Archie Taylor.
Curtis leaves cherished memories to his father Curtis C. Bynum Sr. of Tallulah, Louisiana; his wife, Vivian Bynum of the home; his children Belinda R. Bynum of Orlando, Florida, Jermaine A. Bynum Sr. (Dorothy) of Kansas City, Missouri and Shenita R. Bynum of Kansas City, Missouri; six sisters: Janice Dean (Kevin) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Curtistean Crump of Kansas City, Missouri, Vivian D. Thomas-Riojas (Samuel) of Kansas City, Missouri, Wanda J. Thomas (Charles) of Kansas City, Missouri, Sheila R. Taylor of Newport News, VA., and Rita Bynum of Herndon, Virginia; and three brothers: Bobby Bynum (Naomi) of El Cerrito, California, Troy Bynum (Veronica) of Pensacola, Florida, and Marvin Bynum of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 1700 Linwood, Kansas City, Missouri 64109. Burial in Longview Cemetery, 12700 Raytown Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
