Dale L. Steil, age 88, Prairie Village, Kansas passed away September 29, 2012 at the Forum of Overland Park after a long illness. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, I-435 at Holmes Road. Private burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village or Crossroads Hospice, Lenexa, Kansas. Dale was born July 22, 1924 in Atlantic, Iowa, to Irvin W. and Marybelle Steil. The family moved to Kansas City in the early 30s and Dale attended Paseo High School graduating in 1943. He served in World War II as a combat engineer and M.P. in both the European and Pacific Theatres. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating with a business degree in 1950 and began a 42 year career as a special agent for Prudential Insurance. He was a member of Certified Life Underwriters and Million Dollar Round Table. In 1982, he also became president of the Steil Safety Gage Co. at the time of his father’s retirement. He was a member of Village Church for over 50 years, serving as a deacon and was very active in Boy Scout Troop 91. Dale was an avid MU fan, who loved his family, his many friends, and his Bichons, DeeDee and Lily. He and Pat, his wife of 37 years, especially enjoyed travel with Alfred Tauck Tours. Sadly, that ended when Dale suddenly lost his eyesight eight years ago. However he then discovered the Library of Congress talking books, listening to over 500 WWII epics, mysteries, and biographies. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph Steil, and his sisters Dorothy Toms and Phyllis Hurley. He is survived by his wife, Pat Steil; his sons Tom Steil, Shawnee, Kansas and Brad Steil, Overland Park, Kansas; his stepson Paul Heuermann, Castle Pines, Colorado; stepdaughter Pamela Lynn Harvey, his grandsons, Rob Harvey and Wint Harvey, Boston, Massachusetts; his sister-in-law Marge Steil, La Quinta, California and brother-in-law Paul Sisk, Kansas City. Dale’s family wishes to thank the great staff at the Forum and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of Dale in his final months. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com.
