Damian was born on September 04, 1959, to Linda and Jim (Serapio) Reyes in Kansas City, KS. Damian was the youngest of 4 children. In his childhood, Damian was by all accounts a very dynamic and head-strong kid who loved playing sports and hanging around the neighborhood with friends and family. He was so proud of where he came from.
Early in life, Damian met Rosa Noyola and they married at the young age of 19. Together they had and raised 6 boys- Damian Jr (Amelia), Andrew, Luke (Erin), Simon, Jacob, and Thomas. Together they all lived in a small 3-bedroom home in the Westport neighborhood of Kansas City for 19 years. It was during this time that Damian worked at, and eventually retired from the U.S. Postal Service. During his free time, you could often find him coaching his son’s basketball teams, ushering at Guardian Angels Church, volunteering at school ice cream socials, and being the Athletic Director at Guardian Angels School. Damian loved being a part of, and contributing to Guardian Angels Parish which was nestled in his Westport neighborhood, just across the street from where he lived.
Damian will be greatly missed by his brother Jim, and sisters Josie and Michelle. His 5 living boys will also miss him tremendously but will do their best to live their lives in honor of his memory by being the best fathers they can be to Damian’s 15 grandchildren- Alexander, Isaac, Ava, Ethan, Evelyn, Simon Peter, Jayde, Cameron, Elora, Zachariah, Emma, Jaclynn, Noah, Ezekiel, and baby Grace (on the way).
Damian had a big heart to go along with a big smile, and big laugh. He was a private and quiet person, but also knew how to have a good time! He was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly giving of his time. He loved coaching his boys in basketball, cheering on Mizzou, the Chiefs, and the Royals, grilling out, watching classic movies, and listening to R&B, Soul, Funk, Classic Rock and Latin Rock. He was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Damian. They were part of who he was, and his strength undoubtedly helped him cope with the challenges he faced toward the end of his life.
Damian was a strong fighter, but ultimately, he let go and listened to God’s calling. We know that he is free from pain and is floating peacefully in eternity with his mother, father, and son Andrew, and all other family members that have passed on. “Remember me. Though I have to say goodbye. Remember me. Don’t let it make you cry. For even if I’m far away I hold you in my heart.”In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Damian’s memory.
