Dana Ann Brutsman

Dana Ann Brutsman, 53, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on July 20, 2026. Born on August 5, 1972, Dana moved through life with a steady kindness that didn’t ask for attention, and a compassion that showed up in the ways that mattered most—quietly, consistently, and without keeping score.

Raised in Wamego, Kansas, Dana was the only child of Cindi and Jim Phinney, and she carried the warmth of that close-knit beginning with her ever after. She graduated from Wamego High School in 1990, then spent a year at Maplewood Community College—another early sign of the generous, open-hearted spirit she brought to each new season of life.

On November 25, 1995, Dana married the love of her life, Paul Brutsman, after the two met on a blind date—proof that sometimes the best plans are the ones someone else makes for you. They celebrated their 30th anniversary last year, building a life marked by devotion, laughter, and the kind of partnership that makes the ordinary feel like home.

Dana was a homemaker, raising her sons Jacob and Noah, who were her pride and joy. She gave of herself in the way the best caregivers do: fully, faithfully, and with a heart that always seemed to find room for one more need, one more worry, one more moment that deserved tenderness.

She also knew how to enjoy life. Dana loved the Kansas City Chiefs, poker, the ocean, and—most of all—spending time with her grandchild. If there was a way to combine family time with a good game, a great view, or a Chiefs win, Dana would have considered it a near-perfect day.

Dana’s compassion didn’t stop at her front door. She volunteered for children’s programs and helped put on Mile walks and other fundraising events, offering her time in that selfless way that made things run smoother and made people feel seen—often without them ever realizing who had quietly made it all happen.

Dana is survived by her husband, Paul Brutsman; her two sons, Jacob and Noah Brutsman; her grandson, Jack; and her parents, Cindi and Jim Phinney.

A visitation will be held on August 8, 2026, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel (3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, Missouri 64119) from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm.
