Daniel T. Egan, a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on September 20, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, Danny was a vibrant soul whose life was filled with love, laughter, and an undeniable competitive spirit. Danny was born to Edward and JoAnn Egan, who instilled in him many values, but especially hard work, kindness, and loyalty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brothers Darrin and David, and his sister Mary. He leaves behind a legacy carried on by his son Andrew, his sister Donna, and his brothers Dennis and Doug, all of whom he held dear.
Danny's formative years were spent in the community of St. Elizabeth Catholic School, followed by Rockhurst High School, where he graduated in 1972. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Missouri in 1976. An active alumnus, Danny maintained close ties with his alma maters through his involvement with the Evans Scholar Alumni Association, Mizzou Alumni, and Rockhurst Alumni. His professional journey began in the sales sector, where he excelled in selling medical equipment and technology at Medispan. Danny's career saw him take on significant roles, including leading the Sales Team at Egan Distributing and becoming a partner at Construction Solutions, where his strategic vision helped expand their customer base. Beyond his achievements, Danny was celebrated for his generosity, loyalty, and unparalleled work ethic.
Danny married Ann Dobyns in 1996 and was blessed with the birth of his son Andrew in 1998. Being Andrew’s father was one of Danny’s greatest blessings. Danny's life was rich with friendships and camaraderie, often cultivated over friendly competitions. Whether on the golf course, at the card table, or in a pickup basketball game, he was known for his athletic prowess and his eagerness to uplift those around him. Those who had the opportunity to compete with or against Danny knew him as a formidable opponent who, regardless of outcome, sought to share his wisdom and improve the skills of others.
His love for sports included being a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Missouri Tigers, and the Kansas City Royals, where he was as knowledgeable as he was passionate.
Danny’s generous spirit and dedication to personal growth made him a mentor to many. He also established a foundation in his mother’s name at Children’s Mercy Hospital; a special dedication celebrating the gift of learning and a legacy of love honoring his mother. Danny's commitment to education will leave a lasting legacy through his support of the Evans Scholars at the University of Missouri. Danny was a generous and philanthropic soul, giving much more than advice about sports during his years.
A memorial service to honor Danny's remarkable life will be held in November. Please check back for service details. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital in memory of JoAnn Egan.
Danny will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, competition, and love for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
