Daniel was born to Daniel R. Flavin, Sr. and Lucille (Collins) Flavin. He attended St. James Catholic School and Lillis High School (1951). He then began his career at the Gas Service Company where he dedicated his service for over 40 years.
In 1958, Daniel married the love of his life, Arlene Kay. They filled their Waldo home with love and were blessed with five children. Following Kay's passing in 1977, Daniel devoted himself to raising their children on his own. His deep Catholic faith guided him through this journey, and he instilled these same values in his children.
Those who knew Daniel will remember his no-nonsense approach to life, warm laugh, and uncanny knowledge of Kansas City streets - making him the best backseat driver. He was generous with his advice, often reminding loved ones to "enjoy it while you're young, because I sure did."
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Flavin (Beverly); and his sister, Marie Pace (Anthony). He is survived by his children: Kim Arnoldi (Dave), Mary White (Drew), Chrissy Flavin, Linda Pinsel (Dan), and Dan Flavin III (Kelly), as well as his brother-in-law, Jerry Swartz (Jan).
He was also a proud grandfather known as "Papa Dan" to Aimee Arnoldi, Sarah Collins (Crawford), Eric White (Ally), Allie Brasuell (Luke), Kelly White, Kirsten Melvin (Zack), Vince Flavin, Kate Pinsel, Jack Pinsel, Mick Flavin, Audrey Flavin and Millie Flavin. Daniel was blessed with 7 great grandchildren: James, Olivia, Asher, Bear, Brooks, Greta and Rosie.
Additionally, Daniel is survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Daniel will be greatly missed by all. We would like to thank all who helped us care for Daniel is his final days.
