

Dan Lappin passed away on December 14, 2012 from pancreatic cancer at home. Dan was predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen Dowling and Peggy Burnett. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Kathleen (Nolan) Lappin; his 7 children Mary Anne(Bruce Hamilton), Nancy (Joe Janasz), John(Jennifer), Brian(Marilyn), Michael(Brenda), Sharon, & Barbara; his 11 grandchildren Paul, Daniel, Tommy, Kevin, Jean, Jana, Cara, Jessie, Jill, Clare & Justin; one sister, Pat Culhane; his sister –in-laws Mary Nolan and Loretta Ley, his brother-in-law Tom Nolan; and numerous other relatives.
Dan was born in St. Louis, MO on November 12, 1930 to John Lappin & Marguerite(Scheurich) Lappin. After graduating from St Louis University, Dan served 21 years in the USAF. Dan worked for JC Penney at Metro North Mall from 1976 to 1992. In his retirement years, Dan was always on the go whether it was volunteering with handicap swim at the Y or being a Eucharistic minister to hospital patients and shut-ins. Dan was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus & a Precious Blood Companion. Dan & Kay also found time to “spend their kid’s inheritance” by traveling, with several trips to Europe & South Africa. Dan spent countless hours “digging up the dead” by working on the family genealogy.
Papa always loved to tell stories of when he was growing up in St Louis and was proud of his Irish heritage. He is dearly missed. His sense of humor is treasured. His stories will continue to be told for generations to come. His generosity with his time and talents is remembered by his children and grandchildren and used as a model for how to live their lives.
Visitation will be at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, Dec. 18th where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 AM Wednesday, Dec. 19th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Dr. Kansas City, MO; burial will follow at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Lappin family asks donations be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care or to St Charles Borromeo Church.
