Daniel L. Root, 80, of Stilwell, KS passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 with his family by his side.

Dan was born June 26, 1939 in Kansas City, MO. After a few teenage adventures, at the age of 16, he was hired by Holman Dental Lab in Kansas City, MO as a delivery boy. In a short amount of time he was offered a position building Crowns. He had a natural gift for the art of dentistry. Dan founded Root Dental Lab in November 1964, all the while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve as a dental assistant, working alongside UMKC dental students during his six year reserve stent. With Dan's passion and dedication to his trade, Root Dental Lab became world renowned for innovative and cutting-edge dental implant manufacturing. Dan Root pioneered many techniques for implant procedures and lectured all over the world. Dan was one of only two non-dentists to ever receive the Aaron Gershkoff Memorial Award from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dan was also known for his love of fly fishing, restoring old cars, designing and building his dream car, the Racine, and an avid reader, especially of history.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents George and Mildred (Ashford) Root and brothers David Root and Richard Root. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Glenda Root, sons Dan S. Root and Randall Root (Pin), daughter Sally J. Root, six grandchildren Matthew, Justin (Claudine), Sherman, Caroline, Megan & Henry and sister Debbie Root. I was very sad to hear of your dads passing.I remember when your family came to Pittsburgh for his successful transplant over 20 years ago. He called to thank me for the fruit basket that he received from me.What a kind and thoughtful gentleman. As we say in the Jewish religion,May his memory be for an eternal blessing.Condolences and prayers to your family.
