Amazing, extremely moving tribute to Dan by his children at the service yesterday.
71 was too short.
However, a life very well lived.

My deepest condolences to Dan’s family.

Though I knew him only briefly, Dan made a lasting impression as a generous and knowledgeable colleague. He freely shared his expertise in adjudicating administrative law cases and was especially welcoming to me, a new administrative law judge. I will always be grateful for his guidance and hope to honor his legacy by demonstrating the same dedication to justice that he exemplified.

I worked with Dan as a Commercial Banker finding ways to help the communities with whom he worked.  He was easy to develop a friendship and we maintained that friendship for 25 years. I can still hear his laughter from when we would eat our lunches around different spots in Springfield.  Dan was always very thoughtful and asked about my family whenever we met.  He was always quick with a story of his children growing up and coming into their own as adults.  And he was so very proud of each and every one of them. I will miss him, and always remember him.  God Speed Dan.

Dear Sarah and family, I am profoundly sorry for your loss of Dan. May all your wonderful memories bring you smiles to comfort all of you during the grief process. He now rests in peace.

A fond memory of my FedEx delivery days (and one I have shared often throughout the years) were my frequent stops at Dan's office in Springfield.
Upon learning of my affection for Hershey's Special Dark chocolate and saving me from rummaging around the candy jar, a special separate jar was at the front desk just for me. 
My deliveries to the home were met with smiles and short fun conversations.
