Dear Weiss family,
Dan and I both served in the ASA . I met Dan in 1979 at the courthouse and we became friends. We shared our love of space exploration and faith. He always talked about his love of family and God. He even had me give a revival talk at Belmont. My last conversation with him was Saturday evening. He talked about his love of family and our shared grief over losing our spouses.

I have known Dan since we were teenagers. Dan was probably my best friend in high school. I still remember rocket club activities as well as Dan and I building a flight simulator in my basement. That was interesting.

We lost touch after I moved to PA and out families grew. We reconnected over the last couple of years after our high school reunion. We stayed in touch since then and enjoyed discussing space travel and other interesting subjects.

I was humble and honored to be mentioned in the obituary. However, I know that Dan was the engine behind the papers and articles he wrote. I was merely the passenger going along for the ride.

Dan, I know that your journey is just beginning and you will have a front row seat to discover the stars and beyond.

Your friend always,

I will miss him coming to the office to see Jenny. He was a kind and funny man. Very smart and accomplished. Wished I could have heard more stories from him!

In their older years, Danny reconnected our moms (Helen and Mattie), who had served together as young moms in PTA. Also he reminded me that he was an “Honorary Bluebird” when we were in elementary school, as Mattie brought him to our all-girl Bluebird meetings all those years ago. 😉 Enjoyed his sense of humor! RIP, Danny. 🙏🏽 Paula (Lynn) Mattison
