David was born to Bob and Mary DeGraeve in Kansas City, Missouri on August 4, 1960. He graduated from Raytown High School and attended Southwest Missouri State, receiving a degree in Construction Science.
Upon graduation, his passion was to be a Concrete Flatwork Estimator. He started his career at Muehlberger Construction. For the past 25 years, David has been a member of the George Shaw Construction Company family. In his 25 years, he became the authority on Concrete Flatwork Construction in Kansas City. David’s role as estimator, researcher, teacher, mentor and friend will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched in the industry and beyond. He leaves his fingerprints on some of the most iconic construction projects in Kansas City; including the Kansas Speedway, Arrowhead Stadium Expansion, St. Luke’s Hospital Heart Hospital, and the University of Kansas Hospital just to name few. George Shaw Construction and the Kansas City Skyline would not look the same had it not been for David’s dedication, work and expertise.
David’s passion in life was his work until he met the love of his life, Angi. They married on October 25, 2014. Angi taught David balance in life between work and family. David still worked on Saturdays, but he would get back home to spend quality time with Angi. David was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and most of all a grandfather to baby Faye, who would melt him. As David’s illness progressed, he never wanted anyone to feel his pain or suffering. Up until the time he left us, he made sure his visitors left laughing, fulfilled that they were around him.
David is survived by his wife of 3 years, Angi; stepdaughter, Micha Bazemore (Richard) and granddaughter (baby Faye); brothers, Bill (Chrisa), Steve (Melissa) and Michael (Lori); sisters, Theresa Hay (Dennis), Dorothea Kliefoth (Kerry), Robin Allen (Mike) and Susan Newman; 16 nieces and nephews, Sara, Sonya, Mandy, Andy, Andreas, Gabe, Elizabeth, Samantha, Joe, Jim, Emily, Kristen, Kyle, Ashley, Delanie, Keaton; and 11 great-nieces and nephews; Katlynn, Charles, Justin, Will, Dylan, Reese, Declan, Daylin, Michael, Johanna and Kash. David is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Robert and a brother, Jim.
