Born on December 28, 1939, in Concordia, Missouri, David was the beloved son of Walter and Elsie (Hildebrand) Fuchs. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1957.
On September 3, 1960, he married the love of his life, Helen E. Hix, in Higginsville, Missouri. They were married for 47 years.
From 1962 to 1965, David honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. After his military service, he began his professional career at Forrest T. Jones before moving into data security at Employee Reinsurance Corporation (ERC), where he retired in 1997 as 2nd Vice President.
In retirement, David embraced his creative spirit, crafting wooden toy trucks and traveling to various craft shows to share his handiwork. He also gave generously of his time, volunteering at Truman Medical Center East (now University Health Lakewood Medical Center) and spending cherished days with Helen at their condo in Orange Beach, Alabama.
David was a longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The Pastors and LWML members were faithful to visit David, praying with him and keeping him encouraged in his faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Fuchs; his beloved wife, Helen; and his daughter-in-law, Tonya Fuchs.
David is survived by his son, Randall Fuchs of Warrensburg, MO; his daughter, Debra Winship (James); grandchildren Josh (Vanessa), Kyle (Becky), Jarrod (Errin), and Alaina; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace Harris (Barry) of Rossford, OH; and his brother, Michael Fuchs (Susan) of Colleyville, TX. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews and many extended family members and cousins, all of whom were dear to him.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the incredible team at Silverado Memory Care of Lee’s Summit for the kindness, friendship, dignity, humor, patience, and love they showed David. Their high standard of care made him feel truly valued and at home.
Special thanks are also extended to Ascend Hospice, especially Rachel, Alli, Chelsea, Jessica, and other Ascend Hospice team members, whose compassion and dedication brought joy and fulfillment to David’s final months. Their care, friendship, and willingness to go above and beyond will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Matthew Lutheran Church, or the Veteran’s Community Project, in honor of David’s generous spirit and commitment to service.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 30, at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Otto of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
