David "Dave" Alan Griffey

A visitation to celebrate Dave’s life will occur from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Dave was born February 26, 1955 in Excelsior Springs, MO. He was a 1973 graduate of North Kansas City High School and studied business at Maple Woods Community College. Dave began his employment in March of 1976 with at the GM Fairfax Plant. On August 12, 1989 he married Shelley Lynn McBroom. They were married 35 years. Dave and Shelley lived in Kansas City and were the parents of two sons, James Griffey and Jonathan Griffey. Dave loved going to music concerts and collecting knives. In March of 2016, Dave retired from GM following 41 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Shelley; two sons, James Griffey and Jonathan Griffey and his wife, Dalion; a step-daughter, Jennifer Foster; two sisters, Pam Pettit and husband, Ron, and Cindy Faye; nephews, Jason Carter, Josh Carter, Paul Wrigley, Kyle Jessip, Lane McBroom and Mason Smith; nieces, Michelle Pettit and Maci McBroom; brother-in-law, Brent McBroom and wife, Jennifer; a sister-in-law, Julii Plumlee and husband, Russ.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, James Calvin and Norma Jean (Smart) Griffey; a niece, Jennifer Carter; and a brother-in-law, Dave Faye.
