Dave graduated Bishop O’Hara High School in 1981 and earned his Turfgrass Management Degree from the University of Missouri. He retired from the Kansas City Fire Department as Fire Captain in 2021 after achieving 25 years of service.
Being very close with his family, he was affectionately known as “Uncle Dave”, “Davey” and “Uncle Paw Paw” by his pride and joy: 7 nieces, 5 nephews, 6 great-nieces and 5 great-nephews. Born and raised in Kansas City, Dave was a true KC local, supporting his favorite teams and embracing a strong sense of community with his many friends, family and fellow firefighters. Dave was also an animal lover who enjoyed outdoor recreation, travel, fishing and spending time at the beach. His loved ones will remember his exceptional sense of humor, his enormous heart and the way he brightened their lives.
Dave is survived by his wife, Vanessa Knaebel; parents, Arthur and Genevieve Knaebel; siblings, John Knaebel, Paula and husband William Ransom, Mark and wife Susan Knaebel, and Dennis and wife Susan Knaebel.
Dave’s life will be celebrated with a service at Newcomers Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO on February 5, 2022. Visitation from 9:00 am – 11:00 am with a service following.
