David was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Mary (Jaynes) and Isaac N. Patterson III. He also had a brother, Robert, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Julia; children, David (Robin) Patterson, Jr., Donna (Albert) Abrokwa, Leo Revoal, and Julia Sales; grandchildren, Mia, David III, Nicole, and Walker; one great-grandchild, Elliana, and 17 siblings and their families. He is also survived by many friends, including his best friends, Jim & Evey Staffieri, and Mike Bondon, as well as his extended family.
David was born the 5th in line of 19 siblings, in Philadelphia, eventually settling in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. He was educated in the William Penn School District. At 18 he entered the U.S. Marines Corp for 4-years, during the Vietnam War, and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, David worked many different jobs. He met Julia, the love of his life with his famous line “…don’t say no – just tell me what I got to do to win your heart." David and Julia moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the late 1970s, where David worked a variety of jobs, including Pepsi and the City of Kansas City, where he retired as the Maintenance Superintendent after many years of service. During his tenure working for the City, David worked at Kansas City International Airport, Kemper Arena, Kansas City Zoo, and Bartle Hall.
David always had a zest for life, including traveling. He and Julia enjoyed many wonderful trips, including journeys to Europe to visit Julia’s family in Spain and France.
David was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) a number of years ago and, as it progressed, his loving wife (Julia) tirelessly took care of his every need. He passed quietly, early the morning of July 10, with his wife by his side. David always had a wonderful smile and was a kind and generous man, who made everybody feel at home. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He never knew a stranger. David will be sorely missed, but his spirit lives on.
