one of four children born to her parents, LaVernice Inez and Elbert
Hundly Fulkerson in Kansas City, MO. She was the only girl and had three
brothers, Ennis, Albert (Bud) and Robert (Bobby). As the only daughter,
she was the apple of her Pappy’s eye and could do no wrong. Del grew up
in Kansas City, MO, attending high school and college there. After
graduation, she married Ron Chrisman in 1953 . They had three children,
Lori, Ronda and David. Del had two son-in-laws, Tom and Don; she claimed
to each they were her favorite. She and Ron traveled to France as
sponsors for the church group. It was to be one of her fondest memories
as she spoke French conversationally. She also had a daughter-in-law, Ginger.
She was an insatiable reader and very accomplished seamstress.
When her girls were young, she made matching dresses and clothes for them to wear,
with quite a few Christmas Eves spent at her sewing machine long after the kids were in
bed putting the finishing touches on new outfits. Later, after she moved
to Las Vegas, she turned her sewing talents into blessings for others as
she joined a quilting club at church to make quilts for children in a
local cancer hospital. As a group they quilted literally hundreds of
quilts. In addition, in her spare time, she hand quilted quilts for all
her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Douglas, his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, numerous friends and relatives probably numbering
well over fifty. The number of tiny stitches in those quilts is a huge
number. In addition to her quilting, she hand decorated dollar bills for
the younger children on all the holidays. The decorations were small pictures
in the borders that related to the current holiday. While in Las Vegas all her
brothers and their wives visited. Most of the grandchildren, nieces and nephews
were also able to visit. The memories of their visits and recalling the fun
everyone had was a never ending topic through the years.
Del also knew numerous stories about the family and family history and kept a complete family tree updated as well. She did considerable research for her findings as well
as updating all the old family pictures.
Del was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was a devout
Christian. Regardless of where she might find herself on Sunday morning
she always found a church to attend and felt like the various places and
people she met there were a nice part of her religious life.
Del loved the little ones and found her greatest joy in her
grandchildren, Ashley, Grant, Lauren, Chad, Shanea, Allyse, Krysten,
Kathryn, Kimberly, Sean and Ele as well as her great-grandchildren, who
gave her the distinguished title of “GG”, Gabriella, Alex, Elijah,
Hailey, Jet, Thomas, Kolbie, Kensington and Clara.
