Born in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph and Carolyn Duer on Nov. 1, 1947.
Dennis graduated from Central Missouri State University and was appointed to the Kansas City Police Department in 1971. His assignments included Central Patrol Division and North Patrol Division where he was assigned at the time of his retirement. Retired, Police Officer Duer was reappointed as a Reserve Police Officer from November 2001 through March 2004.
Following retirement, Dennis moved to Rio Hondo Ranch, Tarpley, Texas. His good friends/neighbors Curtis and Mary Bob, remember him coming to Texas, looking around “the valley,” and fell in love with it. Dennis ended up buying a property that he branded “Double D’s Ranch” with wonderful oaks where he had friends come out and hunt. He was involved with the property owner’s association as Vice President for Special Projects. Dennis had quite the green thumb and loved to cook and bake – his dinner rolls became so famous, that the neighbors would hide when that saw Dennis coming because he’d give them more than they could eat.
Dennis loved his animals: dogs, cat, chickens, deer, and a guinea fowl (which he called a chicken) and his hummingbirds. The two dogs he had while in Texas were his best friends - both were rescue dogs - Rosie and Sophie. He always spoke highly of his family and how proud he was of his son Chris.
Dennis was preceded in death by father, mother, and youngest son, Kyle Duer.
Survivors include: his son, Chris (Stephanie) Duer; brothers, Joseph Duer and Jeff Duer; sister, Susan Thilking; stepmother, Ann Duer; Chris’s mother, Beverly Duer; and a large family of nieces and nephews.
