Dennis Harold Mickelson

October 13, 1954 – July 19, 2026

Dennis "Denny" Mickelson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend, passed away on July 19, 2026. He was born on October 13, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Known affectionately as Denny, Mick, Papa, or Dad, Dennis was a man whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed and valued. His deep faith in God guided his life and was reflected in the love and compassion he showed to those around him.

Dennis graduated from Ray South High School and enjoyed a successful career through many different occupations during his lifetime. He believed in staying active and maintained a lifelong passion for fitness and exercise.

Family was the center of Dennis's life. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Heather Mickelson, and took great pride in being a devoted father to Ryan, Dustin, and Ashley Mickelson. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren: Riley and Hunter Mickelson, Peyton and Keishaun Oliver, and Penelope Mickelson. He is also survived by his sister, Monica Sanders.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dennis loved coaching youth sports and found immense joy in mentoring young athletes. His passion for coaching extended beyond the game, leaving a lasting impact on countless children, including his own children and grandchildren. The lessons he taught, both on and off the field, will continue to live on through those whose lives he influenced.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Ralph E. Mickelson and Hester S. Mickelson and his brother, TR Mickelson, whom he now joins in Heaven.

Those who knew Dennis will remember his unwavering faith, generous spirit, love of sports, devotion to family, and special affection for his dogs. Above all, they will remember a man whose heart was open to everyone and whose legacy is one of love, kindness, and service to others.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133, US, on July 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
