Dolores Coleman was born February 27, 1927 in Kansas City, MO.
Dee was employed by ATT Communications for 37 years and retired in 1982 as a supervisor. She was also very proud of her time as a Harvey girl at Union Station which is still there today.
A longtime member of Raytown Garden Club, she served as president and in many other active roles. Dee was always the first to host a garden tour as she loved nature and plants and maintained beautiful gardens at her residence. She extended that love by supporting Powell Gardens for many years.
In her early years of life she raised German Shepherd puppies and showed her dogs. Her prized German Shepherd, Kim won many accolades, trophies, and ribbons. In her last couple of years, five beagle dogs, Tilly, Hue, Esther, Rizzy, and Cappuccino, gave her lots of love where she lived. Dee enjoyed spoiling any dog in her presence with limitless treats.
Dee was an avid sports player in her younger years. She played basketball but her true love was softball. She enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. She supported KCMSSL (Kansas City Metro Senior Softball League) and sponsored Big Daddy's Donuts teams for many years. She enjoyed attending and watching many of Gary’s games, until she no longer could, but she still enjoyed seeing pictures and hearing stories of their games.
She liked to travel with her sister and friends enjoying history and art of many kind. She enjoyed interior design and collecting art, Japanese culture was a favorite. Dee always talked about her 4 mile walks with her sister for many years and that this gave her longevity.
Dee loved to celebrate every birthday and Christmas with her family. She was the first to start this tradition and it continued through her 96th birthday. Any time spent with her family was special to her, especially trips to the casino to play blackjack.
She was preceded in death by Charles E. Coleman (father), Marie S. Coleman (mother), Diana M. Coleman (sister), and Gloria A. Coleman (sister). She is survived by her son, Gary D. Pumphrey and wife Diana L. Pumphrey, her grandsons Jared T. Pumphrey and wife Abagail, and Cameron J.
