A proud graduate of Wyandotte High School’s Class of 1945, Dolores began her working life during World War II, contributing to the war effort by packing rations for American troops at Loose Wiles (Sunshine Biscuit Co.) during the summers of 1943, 1944, and 1945. She continued working there until 1952, when she retired to focus on her growing family.
Her dedication to public service continued with a 22-year career at the Circuit Court of Clay County Probate Division, where she retired in February 1988. Her work was marked by integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to her community.
Dolores was a member of Hillside Christian Church. She also held leadership roles in the Social Order of the Beauceant, serving as Past President of Assembly #178 in Liberty, Missouri, and as Supreme Aide of the Supreme Assembly—roles that reflected her grace, generosity, and devotion to others.
Beyond her professional and community service, Dolores embraced life’s simple joys like her love of music, which she had playing on the radio 24/7. She loved playing pitch with her siblings, spending time at bingo and buying lottery tickets. She also enjoyed the fun and excitement of playing slot machines. She adored the company of a pet kitten or cat, and had been known to take a nap with her kitty from time to time. Some of her happiest days were spent with her brother, sisters and in-laws, picking fresh vegetables, strawberries, and green beans — moments filled with laughter, conversation, and the satisfaction of working side by side.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Gunter Jr.; her son, Tom L. Gunter; her parents; and four siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Margie A. Turner (Bob); her son, George Gunter III (Pamela), her sister, Marilyn Saragusa (Tom), Daughter in-law Emelie Gunter of Santa Rosa, CA., eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Dolores will be laid to rest at a private ceremony. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain a lasting light in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family of Dolores requests no flowers.
