

Don was born in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Thelma (Meyer) Dietzel. Don graduated from Central High School in 1952 and Kansas City Junior College in 1954, before serving in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He then worked at Bendix and Allied Signal until he retired in 1992. He lived in Raytown, Missouri until he moved to Rose Estates Assisted Living in Overland Park, Kansas.
Don was very involved in his children’s activities while they were growing up. He was a leader in Boy Scout Troop 75, a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and a leader in Camp Fire Girls. He was an active member of the Methodist Church. After retirement, Don enjoyed square dancing with the River City Squares Club.
Don was preceded in death by his spouse Dorothy, former spouse Janyce, and an infant daughter, Shirley. He is survived by Debbie Dietzel of Independence, Missouri, Ruth Wilson (Bert) of New Zealand, Laurie Gatewood of Kansas City, Missouri, and Richard Dietzel (Cindy) of Overland Park, Kansas. Also surviving him are three grandchildren Philip Gatewood, Michael Dietzel, and Stephanie Johnson (Philip), along with 3 great grandchildren. A visitation for Donald will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 30, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A graveside service will occur Monday, October 30, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133.
